My Mission

As we have all heard many times by now, the Internet is not what it used to be. I was born in Silicon Valley in the 2000s when people were really excited about what the Internet was going to become. But things have..... changed.

We are tired by our phones, feel like the world is blowing up but can't stop watching it all go down, parents are worried about their own tech habits on top of their kids' tech, my generation is conflicted about our tech, and different institutions are struggling to navigate AI's rapid revolution. It's a bit of a mess really.

I want to help people navigate life in an age inundated by technology. But I learned to do this myself-- the super hard way.

I grew up "chronically online" as they say, so my childhood and adolescence were molded by social media, smartphones, and all the versions in between. I got social media when I was 10 and nothing was the same after that. I spent years between Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Youtube, etc etc and became super entrenched despite having a normal life otherwise. I couldn't understand how everyone around me was so excited about technology while it was making my life feel difficult. I needed to change. I tried digital detoxes, app blockers, but something was missing. I was still tired.

Since 2023 I've become "appstinent" as I like to say. I don't use any tech that's designed to addict you-- no social media, no video games, gambling apps, dating apps-- and I use a "dumbphone." This new lifestyle has been one of the best decisions I ever made for my quality of life, which led me to start the "appstinence" movement while I was a student at Harvard in 2024. I studied technology, well-being, and education while working on the "5D Method" through the Harvard Innovation Labs and FXB Center for Health and Human Rights. The 5D Method helps anyone quit addictive tech and become appstinent in a sustainable and meaningful way.

I have been on a journey to re-learn how to live life without the apps, and help others do the same. It has transformed me and will transform you too. I promise! Now I talk to lots of people and find solutions for questions like:

So when I say “the future of tech is less of it” I mean that it’s time for us to revisit what it actually means to live well, in a dignified way free from addictive technology-- how to indulge, rest, be vulnerable, work, cry, love, die. I've found that requires a whole lot less technology, and that's a very, very good thing. Thanks for reading. :)
